the closet: kino sandals

Aside from a couple of books, the only other purchases I made during my Key West road trip were these Kino sandals. All sandals are handmade and assembled by sandaleros (old-world sandal makers) in store and behind the counter. The Kino family, originally from Cuba, has been making these sandals in Key West since 1966. The store is a sandal saloon. A long wooden bar displays every style of sandal and shoppers sidle up to the sandal of their choice, give the pair a go, and make their purchase, all while standing in front of the bar. Behind the bar in the back half of the store, sandalmakers are hard at work, fans whirring, cobbling away.

I've since worn these sandals while biking and trotting about town. They're cheap ($12/pair - seriously), chic, durable & ultra comfy. I truly dig them.
